Connectors

Connectors in Stadium are used to join your application together with other services or datasources. For example, create a connector to communicate with a database or to read or write files to the file system. The following connectors are available:


Database Connector

We currently support Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases natively, but you can also use ODBC to fetch data from any data source that supports it.

To use a Database Connector, add one to the application and complete the Connection Editor. Continue by adding the queries or stored procedures that are needed by your application. Finally, use the connector on controls or call them in scripts.

Connection Editor Properties

  1. Connection Type

    This can be one of 3 values: SQL Server, Oracle or ODBC.
  2. Server Name/Dsn Name

    A SQL or Oracle server name This is typically a <network machine name>/<SQL instance name> combination.

    For ODBC use the Dsn name you specified when setting up the ODBC Datasource. You'll need a User DSN to connect via the Designer, and a Service DSN on the server to connect through the Generated App. Make sure you add a "System DSN" here, as a "User DSN" does not work. If you are working on a 64-bit environment, set up a 64-bit ODBC Data Source.

  3. SQL Server/Oracle/ODBC Authentication

    SQL Server, Oracle and all ODBC databases can be set up to be accessible by way of a username and password combination for the database server.
  4. Use Windows Authentication (SQL Server only)

    SQL Server can be set up to be accessible by using Windows credentials.
  5. Select or enter a database name (SQL and ODBC)

    The database you wish to access when using the connection. If the database server is accessible from the designer machine, then you can use the drop-down to find the database.

FileSystem Connector

A FileSystem Connector is used to access a folder on the webserver or network. The connector will only be able to access this folder and it's sub-folders but has no access to any of the parent folders.

Consider the scenario where you want to read or retrieve files from a secure folder on your server or network. Essentially something like a working folder for your application. Step in the File System Connector! Create a File System Connector, point it to your folder and provide it with valid user credentials to access the folder. Once created, you can start reading, writing or deleting files from this 'workspace'. You can even assign image files directly to an Image control or allow users to download files to their local pc.

Connection Editor Properties

  1. Path

    This is the folder path on the server or network that will be made accessible via this connector.
  2. User

    The username to gain access to the folder. This is in the format of <domain name>\<username>. If no value is provided for this property, the Application Pool User will be used.
  3. Password

    The password that will be used in combination with the username to gain access to the folder.
